What We Do – Alpha & Omega Foundation

What We Do

HEALTH

While rural India’s health statistics remain poor, health conditions and access to health for the poor in urban slums are equally pathetic and cover less than 4% of government primary health facilities. Thus the need of the hour is a two pronged approach – first to take quality healthcare to the doorsteps of the needy and second to promote health awareness and contemporary health care behavior among the underprivileged.

In such a situation, we are working towards increasing access to quality and affordable health services for poor and marginalized communities. We are providing medicines, donating blood and providing health care awareness campaigns. We seek a healthier world and aim to help 10 million people by 2024.

EDUCATION

The educational initiatives of Alpha and Omega Foundation include pre-school, non-formal education, remedial education and bridge courses. We work for education for underprivileged children who are in difficult circumstances, such as child labour, children of poorest parents, children with disabilities and slum children.

We address gaps in education systems with innovative, low-cost, exemplary interventions that span the age spectrum. We continue to serve as a model for improving learning outcomes, both in India and abroad.

We lay special emphasis on girl child education and women education, so that they and their families are empowered.

ENVIRONMENTAL WELFARE

At Alpha and Omega Foundation, We are launching environmental education programs in various schools and colleges and strengthening the existing ecological and environmental training infrastructure. Our volunteers are also involved in social causes like Clean and Green India and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Tree plantation is one of our initiatives. It is the most essential activities if mankind has to survive and our next generation has to see the next millennium. In fact it is one of the most common activities that people associate with helping the earth. The forest cover is only 3.67% in Punjab as against 21.71% in the country. In India, 7,13,789 square kilometers area is under forest out of the 32,87,469 square kilometers geographical area. We aim to plant 36,500 trees by 2024.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Due to their limited access to quality education and livelihood opportunities, women and girls from rural and marginalized communities of the society face constant challenges for their advancement.

By building their capacity through the right employable skills, they can secure better livelihoods and gain the confidence to contribute to their families and communities. Empowering women is the key to sustainable development of our country.

To empower women from underprivileged communities and support them we focus on providing training in several in-demand trades such as tailoring, artificial jewelery making, embroidery work, design art, beautician course and more.

LIVELIHOOD

Youth comprise one-third of the Indian population which in turn constitutes a major part of the country’s labor force. The number of underprivileged youth in India, who lack education and proper guidance, is so large that only 15% of young graduates who pass out from colleges are employable, as reported by the Financial Express;

It is not their lack of theoretical knowledge that is the reason. Rather, it is a lack of the right skills and attitude.

Through our livelihood projects, we are training poor and underprivileged youth in English proficiency, basic computer education and soft skills in the fast-growing retail, hospitality and BPO sectors to enhance their employability. At the same time, we help women build secure and flexible livelihoods and move out of poverty in a sustainable manner.

RURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

We are promoting the concept of rural entrepreneurship as it can tackle important issues like poverty and unemployment within India.

Our developmental plan on rural entrepreneurship involves arresting the outflow of people living in rural areas and bringing them back to their villages, who had left their villages and migrated to urban areas to support their livelihood.

We have observed that around 68 crore people live in rural areas. Most of the rural labor force engages itself in agricultural activities as well as allied activities. These observations lead us to the conclusion that the development of rural entrepreneurship and development of enterprises and institutions has become the need of the hour.
